چکیده

This paper addresses the issue of trap design for sensor-less automated assembly. First, we present a simple algorithm that determines in O(nmm(nm) log(nm)) time whether an n-sided polygonal part will fall through an m-sided polygonal trap. We then introduce the notion of a minimal trap for a polygonal part, and develop an O(n 4+") algorithm that designs a family of minimal feeders built from these traps. The algorithm is complete in the sense that we can always nd a feeder, provided that one exists that rejects and supports the appropriate poses of the part with a little tolerance. Finally , we describe how to modify our minimal traps to ensure the part will actually fall through.

Finite settling time control of the double integrator using a virtual trap-door absorber

Finite settling time control of the double integrator is considered. The approach taken is to design a compensator based on a virtual lossless absorber which is tuned so that, at some predetermined time, the virtual subsystem possesses all of the system’s energy. At this time the controller is turned off, and the double integrator remains at rest at the origin. This strategy gives the appearanc...

Proton traps for multi-nuclear RF coils: design analysis and practical implementation for 13C MRS in humans at 7T

Introduction: Multi-nuclear MRS (C, P) and MRI (Na) are of particular interest at ultra high field. Trapped coil designs have been proposed which allow the operation of lower-frequency coils in the presence of a proton coil. In this work we give an analysis of useful parameter ranges for practical design of a trap circuit with two capacitors, and present first results headed towards a dual loop...

Novel Designs for Penning Ion traps

We present a number of alternative designs for Penning ion traps suitable for quantum information processing (QIP) applications with atomic ions. The first trap design is a simple array of long straight wires which allows easy optical access. A prototype of this trap has been built to trap Ca + and a simple electronic detection scheme has been employed to demonstrate the operation of the trap. ...

Approximating Attractors of Boolean Networks by Iterative CTL Model Checking

This paper introduces the notion of approximating asynchronous attractors of Boolean networks by minimal trap spaces. We define three criteria for determining the quality of an approximation: "faithfulness" which requires that the oscillating variables of all attractors in a trap space correspond to their dimensions, "univocality" which requires that there is a unique attractor in each trap spa...

A magneto-optical trap loaded from a pyramidal funnel.

We have demonstrated the transfer of 39 K and 40 K atoms from a magneto-optical funnel (a hollow pyramidal mirror) through a low (0:05 l/s) conductance hole and into a conventional magneto-optical trap (mot) 35 cm away, with an efficiency of approximately six percent. This simple scheme should be useful for experiments requiring high loading rates with minimal contamination from hot untrapped a...
